*Humans beings find the necessary energy to move and grow from food.
*Energy is stored in the meat,
milk and eggs of animals.
*In plants, energy is stored in different parts: the roots, stems, leaves, flowers, seeds, and fruit.
* Foods have different
nutrients such as carbohydrates,
protein, fat, vitamins and minerals.
*Examples of carbohydrates are: cereals,
corn and potatoes.
*Examples of proteins are: beans,
animal products such as meat, and peanuts.

products like butter, cheese and cream
*Examples of vitamins and minerals are: green vegetables, and eggs.
*How can we measure how much energy we are using when we do different
activities? Calories are the unit of energy used to measure how much energy food
gives us.
*What is a calorie? A calorie
is the amount of energy it takes to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water
by 1°C.
*A nine-year old boy or girl must consume an average of 2,200 calories daily.
*A gram of carbohydrates has 4
calories.
*A gram of protein has 4
calories.
*A gram of fat has 9 calories.
*How do our bodies eliminate waste? The body has three different
systems that help to eliminate waste. The
digestive system, the urinary system and the respiratory system.
*We receive about twenty percent of the water we need daily from food.
*Sweat is essential for human
survival. There are more than two million sweat glands distributed
all over our bodies.

*A wolf’s sense of hearing is
so well developed that it can hear other wolves howling several kilometers
away.
*Adult wolves have the
ability to regulate their body temperature to adapt to change in the weather.
